POSITION SUMMARY: The unit secretary will be answering the phone and nurse call system in a fast paced, ever-changing environment and will be responsible for effectively communicating messages for follow-through. The unit secretary also navigates and retrieves information from the electronic medical record. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to provide exemplary customer service and demonstrate consistent use of EMMC Caring Behaviors. Able to work closely with all members of the healthcare team. Ability to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment. Monitoring and immediate response to emergency and infant security alarm alerts/notifications. Ensure appropriate and timely entry and reconciliation of patient charges. Secure handling of patients' medical records. Improvement in supply inventory and ordering

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent Required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED: Medical terminology preferred but will train, required within 6 months from date of hire. Proficient computer skills required. Competence in basic math and clerical skills. Typing and computer skills required. Legible handwriting. Other skills as outlined in unit based orientation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Coordinate work station workflow, patient room turnover and scheduling of procedures. Responsible for Charge Capture and Supplies used by patients for billing. Along with daily charge reconciliation. Responsible for work orders and supply inventory management. Responsible for secure handling of patients' medical records. Ability to multi-task

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Secretarial experience preferred; completion of U.S. course preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Capacity to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment. Ability to come in close contact with people. Sitting for extended periods of time as well as standing and walking are required. Must be able to stretch, reach, and retrieve equipment from the supply carts of bend to reach equipment supplied below knee level. Use of the electronic medical record requires visual acuity for reading information on computer screens and fine motor skills for keyboarding and use of a mouse.
